We ensure our premises present no risk of fire by ensuring the highest possible standard of fire precautions.  The person in charge and staff are familiar with the current legal requirements. Jenny Ellis is the Responsible Person and Niki Howard is the Competent Person for the setting.

The basis of fire safety is risk assessed. These are carried out by Jenny.

The setting will have access to the fire safety risk assessment that applies to the building and will contribute to regular reviews.

Fire doors are clearly marked, never obstructed and easily opened from the inside.

Smoke detectors/alarms and fire fighting appliances conform to BSEN standards, are fitted in appropriate high risk areas of the building and are checked as specified by the manufacturer.

Our emergency evacuation procedures have been discussed and the new procedures have been put in place.  All staff and children are aware.

In the event of a fire or need to evacuate please follow the following procedure:

  • A bell will be rung and all children and staff will need to be evacuated immediately.
  • The person who is in charge is the person responsible for collecting the register, mobile phone and children’s contact details.
  • Once they have collected these items they will immediately dial 999.
  • The remaining staff are responsible for ensuring that the children are all lined up either by the back door in the room or along the wall by the gate in the back garden as quickly and as safely as possible, with the rope to keep them together.
  • A member of staff will radio through from each area to check that we have the correct amount of children from both areas.
  • A register will be taken, in both area’s, a member of staff will visually check the presence of each child and answer for them. The children will be lead to the designated grass area in the car park.
  • The person in charge is also responsible to make sure that the room, toilets and garden are clear of children and collect the first aid box on the way out.
  • Children will be kept safe until parents/carers have collected their child.
