At Jack in the Box we will endeavour to provide an inclusive setting to ensure that every child receives an enjoyable, challenging, learning and development experience that is tailored to meet their individual needs.

Each child will be assigned a Key Person, who will monitor, observe and reflect on the child’s play, supporting, extending and developing their learning, language and communication.  Good partnerships with parents/carers are vital to support the children and at Jack in the Box we are committed to working with other agencies, where required.

At Jack in the Box we ensure there is a balance of adult led and child initiated activities through indoor and outdoor play. We will plan and provide experiences which are appropriate to each child’s stage of development and not necessarily their age. No child will ever be excluded and activities will be adjusted to meet individual needs to ensure direct involvement.

At Jack in the Box we promote equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice and ensure that every child is included and not disadvantaged because of ethnicity, culture or religion, home language, family background, learning disabilities, gender or ability.

We have regard for the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 and take prevention of radicalisation and extremism seriously and adhere to our responsibilities under the “Prevent Duty”

Under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995 and the new Equality Act, we will always ensure that we will not treat disabled children less favourably and will make reasonable adjustments to avoid putting disabled children at a substantial disadvantage compared to children who are not disabled.  We are also anticipatory and think about what we need to do to provide access and inclusion for both children and adults.  At Jack in the Box we are always reviewing, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of how inclusive we are and make action plans to work towards.

Jenny Ellis is the Inco/Senco  at Jack in the Box, and through training ensures all staff are aware of the Special Educational Needs and disability (SEND) code of practice and has knowledge of all relevant legislation

Principles under the SEND Code of practice.

  • Have a Local Offer that is reviewed and up dated at least annually.
  • Ensure that any child’s special educational needs are identified early through a graduated approach. Key persons will  use the process of Assess, Plan, Do and Review
  • The culture, practice, management and deployment of resources are designed to ensure ALL children’s needs are met.
  • The special educational needs of children will normally be met in mainstream settings/schools.
  • Settings exploit best practice when devising interventions.
  • The wishes and voice of the child should be taken into consideration in the light of their age and understanding. Working out what’s important to the child and what’s important for the child.
  • The involvement of parents/carers working in partnership with others is essential for effectively meeting a child’s special educational needs and deciding on the outcomes we need to achieve.
  • Provision for a child’s needs should match the nature of his or her needs and will involve a graduated response to assessment and intervention – SEN support would be offered with guidance from the First Team and other agencies that may be working with the child.
  • Children with special educational needs support should be offered full access to a broad, balanced and relevant education, including an appropriate curriculum for the EYFS, and may require support in the way of an Educational Health and Care Plan, with more emphasis on personal goals.

At Jack in the Box we value diversity and differences with pictures, equipment and resources reflecting disabled people’s lives as part of a wide representation of children’s differing backgrounds and experiences.  Staff will endeavour to be good role models by demonstrating appropriate ways to express feelings and the language to help the children express the way they feel. We believe everyone needs to feel valued for who they are and the contributions they make, so we will encourage the children to value and respect themselves and each other.

At Jack in the Box we are very passionate about providing an Inclusive setting and any inappropriate attitudes and practises will be challenged, whether it is inappropriate behaviour from a parent/carer or a member of staff. We actively promote equality and diversity, tackle bullying and discrimination. We aim to narrow any gaps in achievement between different groups of children.
